“Vern” is Paul Laywell- a Diet Coke swilling chocolate addict who’s spent the last 29 years in classrooms ranging from middle school to university level. Currently, he’s the science department head at Covenant Christian Academy in Colleyville, Texas where he teaches both pre-AP and AP chemistry. Paul’s inspiration for this site goes back years to an especially mind-numbing day of in-service. Somewhere between being asked, “What color is your balloon?” and being instructed to form a small group and brainstorm something, it occurred to him: a bad day in the classroom is better than a good day of in-service. He hopes that this website will bring a bit of laughter to the classroom and, more importantly, augment his private school teaching salary so he can afford to put his second child through an over-priced, private university.
